Swipe to the Left…

I’ve started looking for a new home to buy. It struck me that house hunting and online dating are much the same.

You fill out a questionnaire, your wish list of sorts, and boom, matches appear! And thus, your journey down the rabbit hole begins. You can meet a lot of characters along the way. Stamina, dark chocolate and a bottle of scotch are what’s needed for this adventure.

Like internet dating all may not be what it seems… take photos for instance. You make an appointment to view a house, and it’s really not at all what you anticipated. Oh look, it needs a new roof. A Monet.

The questions you answer are similar to online dating too. Square footage? Height, weight. Location? How convenient does it need to be? Price? How much of an investment do you fancy putting into this; can you afford the upkeep? Year built? This part is very important. If it’s an older house with a bit of charm, you might want to make sure the plumbing works. Check the water pressure. Give the taps a-go. Nothing worse than the pipes rumbling when you turn them on. Oh, and check carefully, you may not see the dry rot at first glance.

As I continue my exciting journey for the perfect home, I’m pleasantly reminded I can always swipe to the left.
