I’m excited to share my new single, His Eyes Her Eyes by Michel Legrand!

I’ve recorded a single of one of my favorite songs by composer Michel Legrand.

His Eye Her Eyes, from the original 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair. Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. I’m excited that its available now for download. I’ve also filmed a video available on my YouTube channel lillianpalmersings.  In my own way I wanted to pay tribute to the famous chess scene from the movie. 

In the movie it’s an instrumental. The song plays beautifully during the scene where the characters, played by Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen are engaged in a game of chess. The sexual tension between the two is played out in their eyes. It is a clever and passionate composition. The entire movie score is amazing. The well-known song, The Windmills of Your Mind won the Oscar for best original song in 1969. 

Michel Legrand is one of my favorite composers! I fell in love with his music when I saw the French movie musical, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Tragic love, what more could a young girl want right?  His music captured me. The melodies where beautiful. I purchased the vocal sheet music selections the first chance I got, (Which I still have). The most famous song from this movie is, I Will Wait For You. 

It was on my first trip to Paris in 2014 that I was privileged to see Legrand in concert. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg at the Chatelet Theatre. I sat in the nose-bleed seats; tears began to fill my eyes for a moment. There I was watching Michel Legrand conducting his music! The man whose music that I have been singing most of my life. I didn’t take my eyes off him. Watching Legrand conduct was a masterclass all its own. And a thrill for my heart that I will never forget.
