Heart of the Song

Early Inspiration

Music was the heart of our home. I remember singing and dancing around the living room listening to my father’s record collection, which contained a variety of big band swing, The four Freshman, June Christy, Sinatra plus other vocalists and movie soundtracks. Singing in the shower was a guaranteed concert. The acoustics were great. Mom, after forty-five minutes, and inspired by the water bill would turn off the hot water to inspire me to come out. It’s where I developed my high notes!

The Beginning

Singing and a love for music came naturally. I sang in my elementary school choir. One night on KPBS, a musical tribute to a guy named George Gershwin hooked me on the American Songbook and jazz.

Private vocal study followed from age fifteen into my early twenties. I studied only classical music and built the vocal foundation that serves me well to this day. All the while, I performed in musical theatre. Well into my thirties, I felt inspired to develop my own style as a solo artist. Singing in my own voice led me away from the theatre and into clubs, concert venues and corporate events.

Personal

I believe in giving back. Because of my love for animals, I trained my first dog, Harry - a terrier mix, to be a therapy dog team and developed a reading program for kids called Barks ‘n Tales.

Harry and I also visited hospital patients recovering from serious injuries right up until his passing in 2016.

I’m an amateur nature photographer. I support wildlife organizations and donate one dollar from each CD sale of Like a Lover to Lions Tigers & Bears, an exotic animal sanctuary and big cat rescue in San Diego County.
