On the Record… about that Snake

cd_front.jpg

I’m always asked if the snake on the cover of Like a Lover is real. Answer: yes!

I love the Art Deco period, the glamour and art. My first idea was a 30’s style dress, long and curvy, Erte’ inspired. During a conversation with a close friend the ideas began to flow, how about something snake like? Which spun into nude with a snake. With my friends’ support and encouragement, I decided to go for it. I went to work like an athlete preparing for a race—I went to work on my abs!

Inside the CD jacket there are photos from the shoot that show how it was realized. The handler put Aussie round my neck, (heavy boy) and he move about me. I could feel the snake contracting and expanding as he breathed. I moved just a bit as the photographer clicked away. After, we cleared the set and shot the nudes. It’s empowering to be so exposed. There’s nowhere to hide!

In post-production, I selected several photos where Aussie is covering me here and there. We digitally cut and pasted his curvy shape on my body. From start to finish, the entire shoot took six hours.
